Hawa Mahal Jaipur| How to reach ?
👉Hawa Mahal
is located in the pink city of Jaipur. Jaipur's most distinctive landmark, the
Hawa Mahal is a stunning pink-painted beehive, delicately shaped like a
honeycomb, rising over five dizzying stories.
👉It was built
in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to allow ladies of the royal household
to observe city life and processions. From above, it offers stunning views of
Jantar Mantar and the City Palace in one direction and Sireh Deori Bazaar in the other. There is a
small museum (open Saturday to Thursday), with miniature paintings and rich
relics, such as ceremonial armour, which help evoke the royal past.
👉The main
architect of this palace , well-stacked in red and pink sandstone, is Lal Chand
Ustad and it is consider that the palace was built in sort of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god. Considered an epitome of Rajputana
architecture, the main highlight of Hawa Mahal is its pyramidal shape and its
953 windows or "Jharokhas" decorated with intricate designs.
👉The main
intention behind building the Mahal was to facilitate the royal women and give
them a view of daily life through the windows as they never appeared in public.
👉The original
intention of the design of the trellis was to allow the royal ladies to observe
daily life and the festivals celebrated in the neighbourhood below without
being seen, as they had to cover their face with purdah. This architectural
feature also allowed the passage of fresh air by Venturi effect, thus making
the whole area more pleasant during the high summer temperatures.
👉Claustrophobes
should be aware that the narrow hallways can sometimes be extremely narrow and
crowded inside the Hawa Mahal. The best time to visit the Hawa Mahal is early
in the morning when the sun enters the rooms through the windows. The mahal is
lighted with golden solar lights.
